Your Connector & Legal Recruiting Solution

Charlotte, North Carolina

Charlotte is the largest city in the state of North Carolina. It is the second largest city in the southeastern United States, just behind Jacksonville, Florida. In 2014, the U.S. Census Bureau estimated the population of Charlotte as 2,537,990. Charlotte is home to the corporate headquarters of Bank of America and the east coast operations of Wells Fargo, which along with other financial institutions makes it the second largest banking center in the U.S. Nicknamed the Queen City, like its county a few years earlier, Charlotte was named in honor of Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, who had become the Queen of Great Britain just seven years before the town was created.

The Catawba Native Americans were the first to settle in Meckleburg County, in the Charlotte area, and were first recorded in European records around 1567. By 1759 half of the Catawba tribe had died from smallpox. At the time when their population was the largest, Catawba people numbered 10,000, but by 1826 that number had dropped to 110. Charlotte is traditionally considered the home of Southern Presbyterianism but in the 19th century, numerous churches, including Presbyterian, Baptist, Methodist, Episcopalian, Lutheran, and Roman Catholic formed, giving Charlotte the nickname, “The City of Churches”.

In 2013, Forbes named Charlotte among its list of Best Places for Business and Careers. Charlotte was listed as the 20th largest city in the U.S. The Billy Graham Library on Westmont Dr is one of those places where if you’ve never been, you absolutely must go. You take a remarkable journey through Billy Graham’s life and ministry. If you happen to visit at Christmas time, they have a beautiful live nativity scene that adults and children will love. Freedom Park on East Blvd is another great place to visit. This is a huge park with a beautiful fountain inside it and many lovely trails to walk on. There is a nice lake to walk around, some athletic fields, and even an outdoor amphitheater. The park itself is clean and well maintained, and you can easily spend 3 hours or more right there.

Carpe Diem Restaurant & Caterers on Elizabeth Ave in Charlotte provides the perfect dining experience. The decor is comfortable and pleasing, with lots of open space, dark wood and high ceilings. The staff is eager to please, and the atmosphere is pleasant. Rolls and butter are brought to the table right after you are seated. The Warm Goat Cheese salad with apricot jalapeno vinaigrette is highly recommended. They also have a special salad with shaved radish, shaved cucumber, and mixed greens with vinaigrette that was wonderful. The Filet of Beef was cooked to perfection. The beef sat on a bed of kale and blue cheese, and was topped with crispy onion rings and accompanied by a veal demi. For dessert the Chocolate Ganache Torte with Raspberry Coulis and the Blueberry Cobbler with homemade vanilla ice cream are both to die for. The Fig Tree Restaurant E 7th Street serves up an excellent meal. The filet is perfectly prepared, the beet appetizer delicious. The scallops and couscous is another great meal, as the scallops are cooked just as they should be and very sweet. The chocolate cheesecake for dessert is fabulous. The ambiance is nice, the staff attentive and knowledgeable. A great experience all around!
